Tell us about where it all began and what inspired you to start Kiroto Coffee.

It all started 7 years ago during my travels around East Africa with donations to orphanages. With my agricultural experience I got involved in helping out farming families in Uganda to grow their coffee organically. As Uganda is 14th largest coffee exporter yet they consume more tea than coffee and I wanted to help with sustainability with the smaller farmers.

What makes your brand unique?

My brand is completely grown organically from the soil, to the coffee bean, to the cup. It is a speciality small-batch and slow-roasted quality coffee. The coffee we grow helps provide jobs and sustainable living for local families.

Where do you see your brand in the next few years? Any specific goals or aspirations?

We aim to have our coffee brand expand into our own coffee shops in the UK. We currently have a shop in Kampala Uganda and look to start another in Tanzania.

As you know Popup United is all about supporting small businesses… So as a small business what advice would you give to other small business owners who are just starting out?

Our advice to other start up businesses is to focus well on your market research and be very consistent with your process. Know your target customers and how your product can benefit them in the best possible way.

What is your favourite item from your business and why?

A personal favourite is ground roasted Rwandan coffee. This one has a sweet taste to it’s flavoured notes.

What can we look forward to seeing? Do you have any new collaborations or new projects coming up?

Other than our Ugandan coffee farm, we also liaise in the same way with farms in Ethiopia, Kenya and Rwanda and are looking to expand to other regions in Africa as well as Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee.

What is one thing you really want the reader to know about Kiroto Coffee?
